Annual Research Symposium 2024 — April 8
We celebrate World Health Day and this year we also celebrate the 76th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This anniversary is an important year for all people worldwide because it reminds us that human rights, including peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet, should be universally protected and recognized.
Each year the goal is to draw attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.
We will be featuring keynote speaker Dr. Jason Rohr from the University of Notre Dame, Department of Ecology and Public Health. He will present "Local-to-global ‘win-win’ solutions for disease, food, energy, water, sustainability and poverty challenges in disadvantaged communities." Dr. Rohr’s research interests are focused on the effects of natural and anthropogenic environmental changes, mainly pollution, climate change and alterations to biodiversity, on wildlife populations, species interactions, and the spread of both wildlife and human diseases. His research makes efforts to integrate across disciplines, including ecology, global health, planetary health, agricultural sciences, toxicology, conservation biology, sociology and economics. The primary goal of his laboratory is to understand, and develop solutions to, environmental problems to enhance the likelihood of a sustainable existence for both humans and wildlife.
